With the meteoric increase in demand for innovation in open public spaces, it is no surprise that parks are being filled with larger, more thought-provoking playgrounds and interactive equipment. It’s this added complexity that appeals to children, challenges them, lets them explore their limits and develop cognitive skills through grip, grasp and complex problem-solving. It is the responsibility of play providers to ensure that children can develop these skills, not in a risk-free environment, but in an environment where desired risk is well managed and unnecessary risk is systematically identified, assessed and removed through inspection and maintenance.
